Hi Courtney, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your daughter, that must be terrible.

How long have you had diabetes and what insulin regime are you on? Have you ever been on a diabetes education course? Do you get much help from your healthcare team? Sorry for all the questions but it helps if we know a little more about the difficulties you are having and the treatment you are on so we can think of the best ways to try and help.

Have a browse through the links in our Useful links thread - I'd highly recommend getting a copy of Ragnar Hanas' Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults - the more you understand about diabetes and how to manage the different problems it can present, the easier it is to live with.

Please ask any questions you may have and we will do our best to help 🙂

Hi Courtney, welcome to the forum, I am so sorry you are having such a difficult time. There are so many supportive people on here I am sure you will find it will help having them to talk to. x

Hi courtney. Welcome 🙂

You sound desparate for advice and support. I hope we can help in some small way so that you can come to terms with your diabetes and get some control.

Rob

Hi Courtney, you've already made a good start in trying to improve things by joining here and asking for help 🙂 The past is behind you now, you can;t change that, but with some work and determination you can make sure that your future is much brighter. How many insulin injections do you have each day? If you can give us a few more details we can help you build up a list of questions you can put to your diabetes healthcare team. Do NOT be ashamed because you have had a hard time in the past. They are there to help you, not to make you feel bad, so I would suggest you make an appointment to see your diabetes nurse soon so you can work out a plan to get things working for you.

I think at this stage it is not worth thinking about a pump as you need to have good knowledge about how to control your blood sugars, even if you can't actually achieve it - you still need to understand how it all works.

When was the last time you had a review with your clinic?

Hi Courtney. My name is Faith and I have a daughter your age, although she doesn't have diabetes.

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation and about your daughter. You have made a very good start to making things better by joining here and you will get loads of support and advice. You really do need to get in touch with your Health Care Team though Sweetheart. Once they know you are serious about starting to get things under control they will help you in every practical way they can. I'm pretty sure they wont judge you. The past is just that, the past. It's what you do from today on that matters. We can only support and advise.

As for your mum, believe me she will be happy to see you being honest and starting to make things better for yourself. XXXXX

Welcome to the forums courtney 🙂

hello mark t thank u for making me welcome

i am trying to make everything better my mum is helping me out XX i love u lady willpower xxx

Hi Courtney..

I've been pumping almost 4 years now, with pumps you need to carb count and learning to carb count before going onto a pump does make the learning curve of pumping a lot easier.. As it's one thing less to learn..

Not sure about whether they are hard as such, but do require a lot of commitment as in the early days as you pin down your basal profile and start working out carb ratio's etc (often you've got to rework the one you used on MDI) take a lot of testing etc, but once you've got over this part and settle into sorting out what the the best bolus to use with what foods etc (choice of 3 different bolus's) the you'll still testing a lot during the day but its a lot easier..

A good place for information about pump therapy and different pumps available is www.input.me.uk

You'll in the right place for support and help, ask as many questions as you need and if mum's helping you perhaps she might like to join as well..

Hi Courtney a big massive warm welcome to the forum from me, rest assured now your a member on here we will give you ALL the love and support and help we can xxx

Courtney, if you can tell what insulin you're on, when you inject and what sort of blood glucose results you're getting, we can hopefully start to give you some ways of improving your control.

I'm sure your mum is proud of you just for joining the forum.🙂

Rob
