Hi senco1, welcome to the forum 🙂 I think it is unlikely that if you have been diagnosed after one test then you will fare any better in a few months since the levels are set specifically to confirm the diagnosis. What was your 2 hour reading from the test? Why were you given the test - did you have any other symptoms of high blood sugars? Sorry for all the questions! 🙂

Hi Senco. Welcome 🙂

Would agree with Northerner. Unless you have reasons to believe things have changed.

Hi thanks for help
fasting and non fasting blood test 6.1
oral glucose test 11.6
GP said only just started and will not need meds at moment. Got to go back in Feb but still wondering about that oral glucose one, on boots site they said you should have two of them.
Do they redo the glucose processing 2 hour test again in the future . Or do you just get one.

I think you are all amazing me three weeks and still bunny in headlights.

Welcome to the forums senco1 🙂

Possibly your Doctor will now do a HbA1c test since that can be used to diagnose now as well.

I've never actually had a OGTT, I was diagnosed off the back of a couple of high fasting tests (~14).

A lot will depend if you have other symptoms, like having to pee a lot, extreme thirst etc. If you don't have such symptoms then I believe that they will usually do another test to confirm, but this may vary from practice to practice and possibly based on other knowledge of you as a patient I'm NOT a doctor, and don't know your medical history like yours does 😉

I think that the best thing you can do is to act as though the diagnosis is confirmed and follow the guidelines that any person with diabetes would need to follow in order to gain good blood sugar levels - you have nothing to lose by this, since the recommendations are not harmful of you aren't diabetic, they're healthy and sensible for all! 🙂

I'd suggest having a look in our 'Useful Links' thread for some links to good sources of information to get you familiar with what to expect 🙂

Any questions, please ask! 🙂

Hi Senco and a warm welcome to the forum.

I would say, similar to Northerner, that it would be a good idea to follow recommendations for diet and exercise with or without confirmation.

The goal is to get your blood glucose consistently within the normal range, or as close to it as you can.

Since your fasting BG is not too bad, you can probably get yourself within range without too much modification. Although, it's always easier said than done ! 🙄

Hiya - If you'd met any of us 3 weeks in - you'd have most likely seen doppelgangers of yourself now!

Takes a while to get your head round it so don't try and do it all at once. It's a complicated condition, so take baby steps and you'll get there quicker.

And never stop asking questions - I still learn summat new nearly every day!

hi there,

you might be confusing the test info on Boots WebMD. I don't think it says you need 2 OGTTs.
One random test over 11.1 is enough for a dx of Type 2 diabetes. The Ogtt states a reading of over 11.1 at the two hour mark (the point at which Insulin Resistance has overmastered Beta Cell mass as plotted on the Starling Curve of the Pancreas) is Type 2 diabetes - your reading was 11.6
Don't let your Doc tell you that you only "just" have T2 Diabetes or "mild" diabetes.
Its a serious condition and you must start educating yourself about it.
Don't be fobbed off with "Come back in February" - kick the Doc's door down and demand action now.
