Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello all,

I am new to the site, and have only joined today.

Was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic about a year ago.

Not really sure I am coping very well, have had a few minor disruptions with my general health, and am getting really confused about which problems are down to diabetes, which are down to my age as in getting older (50), and which are menopausal related, or indeed which are just pure luck, and some may be down to the fact I've just given up smoking!

So I am in fact one very confused, muddled, almost geriatric newbie!

Even worse, I am one with the attention span of a gnat, who seems to inhabit another planet entirely to everyone else, who can not remember what happened 5 minutes ago, never mind yesterday!

So think my contributions may be more amusing than useful (usually unintentionally so), but am looking forward to chatting to people who actually know what they are talking about, (even if I don't).

Jools:confused:

hello..........

........and welcome from one Newbie to another. I was diagnosed about 4 weeks ago and I am the proverbial fish out of water.

As for having the attention of a gnat and all the other things you mentioned, that sounds like Menopause initially - been there, done that, and worn out SO many tee shirts !:D

I have had so much support already on here and I am in awe of everyone's vast knowledge.

As my GP says, the best person to talk to regarding diabetes is a diabetic.
I'm fortunate in that he is one, so is well on the ball.

Take time to read everything, especially the links that are suggested. They are easy reading and an excellent help.🙂

Welcome to the forum Jools, I am fairly new to Diabetes myself, and was diagnosed as Type 1 though 7 months ago, There are plenty of Type 2's on here who will guide you and give you loads of helpul tips and advice, I wouldn't be without them.
Now.... what was your name???? LOL.. I forget stuff too.... hehehe Welcome and ask anything.

Hi Jools, welcome to the forum 🙂 Oi, what's all this about 'almost geriatric' - I'm 52! 😉 Well done on stopping smoking, absolutely the best thing that you can do for your health and also your diabetes as smoking raises blood sugar levels - so you've already made a great start 🙂

I would suggest perusing our Useful links thread where you'll find lots of good sources of information that you can read at your leisure - particularly well recommended is Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - something you can dipinto and refer back to and will set you on course for a good understanding of the challenges of diabetes and how best to tackle it.

Please feel free to ask any questions - nothing is considered 'silly', so if it confuses or worries you, then please ask! We have lots of very friendly, knowledgeable people here who will try their best to help you out 🙂 I look forward to hearing more from you.

Welcome to the forum Jools 🙂

Hi Jools. Welcome 🙂

If you wander off absent-mindedly, we'll just send out a search party to find you amongst the previous threads.:D

Hi Jools and welcome from another 50 something oft confused menapausal Type 2. I know exactly where you're coming from when you say you wonder which is causing what sometimes. I was diagnosed in 2003 and have gone from great control and wondering what all the fuss is about to OMG what do I do about this now? and all the stages inbetween.

Anyway, well done on stopping smoking and on finding this site. Both will do you good. I look forward to getting to know you better. Take care. XXXXX
