Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi
I am new to this site. Just wanted to say hello to everyone.
I have been type one for 30 yrs now.
I have become a little lax in my general care of my diet, and blood testing, and exersise over the last year.
I went for a period of about a year being the best I have ever been about 2 yrs ago.
This followed hba1c of 10.5.
I got it down to 7 a year later. This followed running London Marathon.

I have been very naughty and have somewhat rested on my laurels. I seriously want to get back on track with trying to get it down to a healthy number. I have not had a blood test for over 18 months.

So just thought it may help to be communicating with others who understand to try and help me help myself a bit more.

Thanks

Ben

Welcome to the forum Ben 🙂

You've come to the right place for support and motivation - I've been much more enthusiastic about improving my control since I joined, & I'm hoping this will be reflected in my A1c in a couple of months.

It's great to have a moan about something diabetes-related, and have everyone agree with you whole-heartedly. Much as others without diabetes can empathise, they can't really understand what living with it 24/7 is like.

Feel free to rant & ask as many questions as you like 🙂

A warm welcome to the forum, Ben.

With any luck, you'll be able to help us as much as we can help you! 🙂

Hi Ben, welcome to the forum 🙂 Well done on running the London Marathon - that's no mean achievement! The good thing is that you know you can get back to better numbers and probably have a pretty good idea of how to achieve it. Hopefully, with our help and support you can get the improvements you are looking for 🙂 I'd suggest, if you haven't already done it, getting a blood test done so that you have a starting point to work from.

We've got lots of long-term diagnosed people here, so you can compare notes with them and get to know what the newly diagnosed people are getting told these days, so please jump in with any questions, experiences or gripes! 🙂

Welcome to the forum Ben :D

Hi Ben.

Your story is a familiar one and as said, there's nothing like comparing notes to get you back on track.

Hope you can go for another A1c and have some good news. 🙂

Rob

Hi Ben welcome to the forum!

You've definitely come to the right place for communication. It's great to hear you're feeling motivated to get yourself back on track - please do ask as many questions as you like and we'll try our best to answer them! 🙂

Hi Ben, glad you found us. This diabetes lark is hard work and you never get a day off do you? I've been type one for 33 years so I know what a pain it is as does everyone on here however long they've had it. Hope we hear more from you as the days go by.

Hello Ben, it is not too late to get back on track and reestablish good control. I was diagnosed in 1945, when I was 6. For about 40 years I had high urine sugar, there was no way to test my blood sugar. Then I bought my first glucometer in the mid 1980s and finally saw just how high my blood sugar had been. Now I have been type 1 for 65 years and I am very healthy.

You can restore your good control and have a long, healthy life. Good luck in the years ahead!

Richard
