I'm Susan, 66 and was diagnosed with T2 after I had a medical for a new job. A diptest showed sugar in my pee, I had no symptoms at all. That was 2017, everything has been stable until this last year. It's been up and down, since I had surgery and radiotherapy for breast cancer. I've just started the fast 800 blood sugar diet to see if that gets me back on track. I'm on metformin.

@Batnan welcome to the forum. I was diagnosed last July when I asked for a test having discovered my annual blood test for high blood pressure was not being tested for diabetes.
When you said everything was stable from when sugar in your urine until the health problems last year, are you prepared to share your current hba1c and how long you have been diabetic? I know steroids can increase your blood glucose. I had a lump removed from my breast ten years ago but it was not cancerous and subsequent screenings have been clear. I started steroids on Friday before a cataract op next Thursday but it is just a fortnight course.

Do you have fat round your middle? It is said this type of fat increases insulin resistance.

I have heard good reports of the Moseley diets. The Caldesis have good information as does the Freshwell site.

Moving more helps too. I like swimming but will have to stop for a few weeks after my op.

Ask any questions. Good luck.

Hi Susan and welcome to the forum!
I hope you'll find the information and advice here useful. Please always feel free to ask any questions or share any worries you might have - folk are always eager to help and there's always someone who will know the right answers. If you feel comfortable to share a bit more about your diagnosis and how you have been managing your levels, that might help folk to give advice that would be more catered towards what you're looking for.
Other conditions often have an affect on how our bodies process glucose and I'm sorry to hear about everything else that you've been going through. Did you start the 800 diet after speaking to your GP? You've mentioned you've just started it, but how have you been feeling so far?

Welcome to the forum @Batnan (love your username!) :D

I am now feeling very, very old! Who or what is Batnan (apart from our new member, welcome to the forum)? I have never heard of them/it!

Many thanks, @CliffH ! So a cross of Batman/Nan? I have heard of Batman, honest!
I increasingly feel modern life is passing me by - mostly I don't care, and have some sympathy with the judge known for asking "Who are the Beatles?"

Hi @Batnan and welcome to the forum. Sounds you have been through the mill in the last year. Not surprised that it has impacted on your blood glucose levels. I haven't heard of the diet you are trying but I hope you find it successful.

It's similar to the fast 800 diet which was adapted from the Newcastle diet by Dr. Michael Moseley.

I didn't consult my GP first, I'm a retired nurse and confident this diet will help. I've had years of working nights, which means sleep and meals have been haphazard. Research has shown night work puts you at risk of diabetes, obesity, cancer and heart disease. So far, I've managed 3, keen to keep the heart ❤️ ticking!

I too had not heard of Batnan but have two theories based on @everydayupsanddowns comment about an earworm.
- Korean Batman with a theme tune in a "Batnan Style"
- Bruce Wayne's Grandmother who cooks his "Dinner Dinner Dinner Dinner Dinner Dinner Dinner Dinner Bat..."

(Maybe I should get my coat 🙄 although I may have replaced that earworm )

I spotted a GREAT callback in Wallace & Gromit Matter of Loaf And Death (which was on over the weekend) to the Batman (Adam West era) movie, when Gromit is running around trying to dispose of the bomb at the emd.

Brilliantly hilarious in both instances.
