Relationship to Diabetes

Hi everyone
I am new to the forum and have to admit to being upset with my self for not finding this great forum sooner. I have been a type 1 diabetic for 57 years now and have seen massive shanges and dramatic improvements in diabetic managenent and control.
A few years back I was put on the Libre CGM system which transformed my control and understanding on my relationship with food and the impact it was having inn my body.
I have now been given the oppertunity to choose a closed loop control insulin pump. Never normsnlyy given any decision about medical care to be put infront of five medical reps and be sales pitched to has left me in an absolute flat spin as to what system to go for.
I will be scouring the forum and reading all of the posts i can to try and help me understand what is best for me.
Thank you everyone in advance

Hi @Gemo and welcome to the forum - there are quite a few people on here who are fortunate enough to be offered a Hybrid Closed Loop (HCL) system - head over to the Pumping and Technology section of the forum and you will find plenty of discussion regarding pumping and HCL - not sure if this link will work, but if it does it goes to a pdf file which has the 5 systems side-by-side and tells you what they all do: https://www.diabetesspecialistnurseforumuk.co.uk/s/HCL-V5-060924.pdf

If the link doesn't work directly - go to the www.diabetesspecialistnurseforum.co.uk and find the HCP Resources section and scroll down to the Insulin Pumps and technology - loads more info in there too

Hi and welcome.

Great that you have found us at last :party:and excellent that you are finding the new tech so helpful and have been offered a pump and closed loop system. Woohoo!!
I think the general consensus is that whatever your first pump is, it will an improvement from where you are now, but it will be a personal choice as to which ones might be a better option for you.
Can you tell us what your options are. A choice of 5 is fantastic!
Are there any that you feel particularly drawn to in the first instance? Maybe you like the idea of a tubeless pump? There can be benefits and drawbacks to that, so worth considering if any of those drawbacks might be relevant to you. Things like having a reaction to adhesives or having limited options for placement perhaps due to lumpy sites etc. Sometimes they will allow you to try the tubeless patch pumps without being tied into a 4 year contract, so if you had issues, you could perhaps swap to a tubed pump, if it wasn't working for you.

Personally I am really happy to manage my diabetes with Libre and MDI but then I haven't been injecting anywhere near as long as you have.

Hi @Gemo and a very warm welcome to the forum.
I hope you find the answers you are looking for to make an informed decision on what's best for you.

Alan 😉

Welcome to the forum @Gemo

Great to hear you are being offered HCL.

Are you on injections at the moment? Will this be your first experience of pump therapy?

Switching to a pump, and to HCL is a bit of a learning curve. But we have lots of experienced members here who can share their hints and tips based on the different systems they have used. Anything from practicalities (what to do with it when sleeping) to ways to fine tune how it works with different dose strategies.

Another member recently started a thread asking for people’s top tips when moving to HCL that you might find interesting
