Hello everyone

Hi @dednaui welcome to the forum and as someone relatively new (register after diagnosis for T2D in September 2024) I am sure that you will find the forums a great place to get information as well as the main Diabetes site which provides some good information videos (I watched them which is novel as I prefer to read stuff).

Your HbA1c is lower than mine at diagnosis 92 then 86 following second test but at 63 I have a few months on you 🙂. I am/was at a much lower level (sudden bout of Covid has upset things) and using the other Blood Glucose measure I am hoping to be at 5.7% in the new year when I go for my follow up. However, still lots of time to get things wrong but for me the big change was moving to a low carb diet and upping my exercise a bit from a twice a week 5K to at least three and sometime four times a week. On top of that I have started to do some strength training to improve and grow my muscle mass which I believe is possible.

I can vouch for the edamame bean noodles and also the black bean ones recommended by @Leadinglights having tried both, although I do prefer the former slightly more. I also found that I don't need as much using about 50g/portion.

With regards to a continuous monitor, depending how friendly your diabetes nurse is they may be persuaded to let you have one of the samples that some surgeries have hanging around (that's how I got mine). Be warned though they are addictive and sometimes you can be a bit frustrated watching how it goes up more than it goes down. Finger pricking which I am now back to is slightly less stressful and meant that the pre- and two hours post meal tests were actually very positive in my case.

I want to say thank you for all the advice you gave me. I feel better about the future now. I am increasing my physical activity .Today I walked 7.8km according to my Strava app. I need to work back up on the strength training as I've been out of the gym for a while but I'm going back at least three times a week for a 45-60 minute session as well as swimming my current weight is 138 kg so go a way to go but this is definitely pushing me to focus on my health. I received my glucose monitor today so going to start using it and recording things. I'm hoping continuing the exercise and and diet I'll be a better weight as I hope to eventually get back down to 89kg which I was in my early 20's. I'm waiting till the three month review to see how much effect I'm having as I think that will tell me if I'm on the right track. One thing I'm hoping to do when I've lost some weight is walk the west highland way again. I managed to walk it in 9 days when I was slim and it's a goal I have again.

Hi @dednaui, I am glad to have been of some help and pleased to see you are seeing some early benefits from the changes you are making. Enjoy the glucose monitor, I found having that constant view of my BG was good but it was the 7 day and 14 day data points daily average BG and forecast HbA1c really provided me with the incentive I needed. My wife thinks I got a bit hung up on the minute by minute reporting and looking back she was right.

I have not really walked in Scotland although I do a few kilometres on the Pembroke Coast Path each year when we go down for our week's holiday. Enough up and down to get me breathless even when fit 🙂

Like you I am waiting for my three month review which is scheduled for January and I have just been contacted for my eye exam which will be in December.

Keep up your good work and I look forward to seeing you making good progress towards remission.

UPDATE!
Hey everyone I received my results of my 3 month check up. My measurement is now at 50 rather than the 80 it was in November. I have also managed to loose 7kg in that time and. I've made changes to my diet but I have not been super strict with myself. I've also had a lot of issues which has given me tons of stress but I am pleased with the result so far. Just got to keep at it.

Congratulations @dednaui on the big reduction in HbA1c and fantastic weight loss - great job 🙂

Well done, just keep doing what you have and you should knock a few more mmols/mols off your HbA1C by your next test.
