Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
My name is Bunny and I have been a diabetic for 20 years. The first 14 I was in complete denial. I deliberately ate bad foods and dared the disease to get me. It all changes when I collapsed in 2017 and had a week in hospital with terrible numbers. It was the wake up call I needed. I lost weight, changed my diet and took better care if myself And up till now it has been fine. I hate diabetes and sincerely wish they find a cure before too long.

Hi @bunnymaz and welcome to the forum. Well done on getting to grips with your diabetes and sorting things out when the penny dropped that you needed to do something.

I don't think of it as a disease but as a condition. High blood glucose is something you have, not something you catch. You have it because lots of things have come together to make it happen. Some things you can do nothing about - your genetics being the big one - but some things you can do something about. For many losing some weight and changing diet can be very effective in getting blood glucose under control, just as you have found out. Others will add in exercise and for some medication is needed.

We have a lot of discussion about ways to lose weight on here and you come to the conclusion that everybody who needs to lose weight is best finding what works for them. What worked for you?

What worked for me was going Keto. My doctor was completely against and told me it was dangerous but having researched it I gave it a try. These days I have one meal a day and 2 milky coffees and it seems to work gor me.
