Hi everyone, my name is Jay, I have joined today to hopefully have support, not for me, my heart goes out to you all and have read some of your remarkable stories.

I have joined because of my elderly father who has early onset dementure and also type 1 diabeties. He went into a coma last friday and i have been trying to get some information on the subject as now my Mum has passed away, my Dad has only got me and my Brother Mike. He lives on his own and is a very stubborn man, I am now called the nagging Matron as I have to keep reminding him now, that he has to eat regularly. We supply him with a main meal, but then it it down to him and if he can't be bothered to eat he won't. It is so hard, luckily my brother & I live in the same town, so only 5 minutes away from him.

I think that the scare of being admitted to hospital scared him, but he will soon forget, and we will be back to the start again.

So tonight I have be doing some research and so glad to have found a Support Group.

I look forward to meeting some of you on here, and also seeing the answers to some of my questions, which is something that I haven't had before.

Wheels turn don't they, Parents look after us when we are young, and then we get in our 50's and the roles reverse.

But we love him dearly, and I never want to see him like that again, so anybody out there, who should be having a little snack between meals and one before bed. Please do so, as his Hypo was so serious, that we nearly lost him.

I hope to chat to someone soon.

Bi Bi for now

Hi Jaysky.

Wow. You and your brother have your hands full. Full credit for what you're doing, but I know what you mean. The love is unconditional and you do all you can.

Pleased that you've found some answers. I never stop learning about it.

Keep up the good work.

Rob

Hi Jaysky and a warm welcome i commend you and your brother must be such a tough job,Stick with us in here we are a good bunch x

Hi Jaysky

It sounds like your Dad is very lucky to have you and your brother🙂

I am sure you will get lots of advice on the food and medication side of things from T1's on here - as T2, my own knowledge might not be wide enough in your Dad's case. However, I just wanted to add my support as my Dad was diagnosed with Alzheimers a couple of years back - he still lives at home with my long suffering Mum and is very stubborn. My father in law was diagnosed with dementia last year and declined so fast that we had to get him into a care home-a once very proud man reduced to such a sad shadow of himself:(

Hubby and I are late 50s - me and just 60 - him and have been planning our own retirement to find ourselves taking on the role of parents again. Ironic as our son has just graduated and started work and thinking of when he can move out! Sharing our worries and frustration does help doesn't it? Good luck to you in your research and if you haven't got a question, just pop in for a coffee- all the snacks will be sugar free though😉

Hi, welcome to the forum, lots of people around to answer any questions you have, and no questions considered silly!

Regards,

Richard
