Just saying hello to everybody as new to this site and looks like it's going to be a great help to me.
Tested slightly high for type 2 but tried to control without medication last year came down almost to my goal of 52 from 58 but then the last test had gone up a bit so I was told I was on tablets. Just told to take them and to go away. They were even too busy to fill in my diabetic record book as they didn't have time to find a pen ! Not started taking them yet as I have so many questions about what they do, how they may affect me, would I be on them for ever, why am I on two tablets a day rather than the slow release tablets you take once-a-day, what to eat and what should do when on these tablets. Starting to take regular exercise now and on a blood sugar diet although not overweight. Finally got another appointment in 2 weeks time and hopefully they will have more time for me !
So many questions I can't see the wood from the trees. However I have now found this site and lots of new things to learn from it and certainly started reading all the lovely posts everyone else has been putting to give me some advice and support.
Great to meet you all.

Welcome @Lynn JL 🙂 Yes, there’s lots of advice and support here, and there’s also the Learning Zone (orange tab at the top of the page) which you might find useful.

It sounds like you have been prescribed metformin which is a medication which helps the body use the insulin it produces more effectively and prevents the liver from releasing glucose into your system however diet is equally if not more important. It is usual to start on 1 tablet for a week of so then increase it the next week assuming you have no issues with it. I'm not sure what the blood sugar diet involves but I like to think of the dietary approach to be a new way of eating that is sustainable long term.
Many have found a low carbohydrate approach works and this link may give you some ideas for modifying your diet. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Low carb is suggested as being no more than 130g per day total carbohydrates it is definitely not NO carbohydrates.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. You have given me more information in this post than the last 3 GP/Diabetic nurse visits. I am on my way to getting this controlled and knowing what is happening. I will take a look at the link now- thanks

Welcome to the forum @Lynn JL

Ask away with any and all questions that crop up for you. We have all sorts of different people all finding their ow way through the maze of options and possibilities, and finding a way of managing their diabetes which works for them and gives them the results they are looking for. We've got centuries of lived diabetes experience, and most of that shows that there's no 'one size fits all' and you kinda have to work things out for yourself as you go along 🙂

Being able to share your struggles, successes, joys, and disasters can be a real help. No one here is 'perfect' or has all the answers - everyone is just muddling through and trying to work out what works for each of us as individuals.

Keep asking questions - nothing will be thought of as too obvious or 'silly' 🙂
