Hi
@everydayupsanddowns , it's almost 20 years; I got it when I was 19 years old. In Sardinia, Type 1 is endemic. Even my father has it.
I am using the Medtronic pump since 2017, and yes, most of the time with the Medtronic sensors.
I recently tried the freestyle libre my self, and I totally prefer them to the medtronic one, they are less invasive and annoying.
It doesn't feel like there are many differences between the UK and Italy. The USL (our NHS) pays for everything. They give you the pump and sensor if you meet the parameters (usually they go together), and in general, they tend to give it to young patients.
Instead, my father uses pens and the freestyle libre, all paid by the USL.
They can be a bit strict sometimes. For example: when the doctors are renewing your practice, they can decide to take the sensors back if you are not using them properly, especially the freestyle one because the clinic receives all the result.
Talking about meals, I usually count carbs, even if my diet is extremely balanced, my usual meals are veggie soups, big salads, a lot of legumes. Pasta from time to time, I am still Italian
🙂
