Hi, have had T1D for 55 years, and been a member throughout.
Why joining Community now? Prevention is as important to us, as to everyone else - we don't die of diabetes, 75% of us die from CVDs.
NHS is overstretched and does not have sufficient resources, so we as patients must do more at home, e.g. a small group of us are developing a new app to help us all optimise our personal insulin injections. Potential value? Yes, £billions.

Hi and welcome.

Good to have your extensive experience here on the forum. We have a few clever techy people here on the forum (I am definitely not one of them 🙄 ) so you may find others interested in joining your project.... if I am right in my understanding of your post.

I certainly agree with you that as patients we need to look after ourselves and this forum is a huge asset in facilitating that and learning from each other. Personally I am a bit old school and not into phone apps, but I do love my Libre in conjunction with the reader. I tried the phone app, but it wasn't for me and doesn't fit in with my lifestyle but I love the simplicity and ease of use with the reader.

Welcome to the forum @foriegn1

There are several very well regarded open source options for diabetes management at the moment, particularly the #wearenotwaiting and OpenAPS / AAPS projects, which I assume you are familiar with?

Plus commercial offerings like mySugr, which started as a bunch of T1s wanting a better logging app, and has grown into a much more comprehensive diabetes management tool and bolus calculator.

Good luck with your project. 🙂

Welcome, please tell us more.

Hi @rebrascorai and others, thanks for your response and welcome. Mentioned that our small team is developing an AI-assisted app to help optimise personal insulin injections. Yes, would be delighted to get help from any members on insulin, subject to exchanging mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). I don't like the existing phone apps either - so could you help us build one that fits you? If you want any AI help, as our team does, you have to communicate with a new talking phone app. Then enjoy years of extra healthy life :D.

Tbh I haven’t found my Drs that helpful with regards to diet Etc. I control my T2 with low carb as best as I can.

I guess I didn't make myself completely clear.... but I am not techy at all and i am not interested in phone apps, even new better ones. I can manage my diabetes really well with Libre and the Libre reader. I am not "joined at the hip" with my phone (most of the time I find it an intrusion) and find it's bulk awkward, whereas the reader is small and neat and scans very easily. Scanning is not an inconvenience to me and now with Libre 2 and the alarms, I feel that I have everything I could want to manage my diabetes well as regards tech.... well apart from a decent BG meter that doesn't die if it isn't kept above 20degrees C, but that is a different story!

I do not like your implication that those of us who do not wish to communicate with a talking phone app will have a shorter, less healthy life. I do not use any phone apps, and if I did acquire a smartphone would still not see any need to use an app to manage my insulin.

I would not be surprised, indeed expect, that foreign1 is itself an algorithm.
