Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I am a mid 50’s woman living in Hampshire, I am type 2, taking metformin, sitagliptin, dapagliflozin and now victoza injections, also high blood pressure taking Ramipril, amlodipine finally finishing with high cholesterol Lipitor, ....... phew that’s a mouthful 🙂 and I don’t even take paracetamol unless really have too, which is hardly ever!
Doing ok, losing weight, gave up smoking almost 11 months, just want to say Hi to everyone 🙂

Welcome to the forum @Daisychain1

How long have you lived with diabetes? Have those meds built up over a number of years, or all come on quite suddenly?

Huge congratulations on the weight loss and especially on stopping smoking - those will both make a big difference 🙂

How are your BGs generally? Are there any questions you have about your diabetes management or experiences you want to compare with others here?

Thank you for your welcome 🙂 I was told I am diabetic 2 years ago, have pcos and had been on metformin for about 8 years for that, until suddenly the metformin made me really ill so the doctor took me off it and about a year later after feeling generally unwell with different symptoms and dangerously high blood pressure had a blood test and was called back urgently as my bloods were VERY high, put back on metformin but slow release, couldn’t manage more than one a day so was put on the other meds and lastly victoza injection, managing pretty well and bloods going in the right direction and DN pleased at the moment. not 100% but definitely feeling better than before.
don’t really understand all the jargon apart from finger pricking results 🙂
Told I have probably been diabetic for a few years but the metformin was masking it.

BG just means blood glucose and by that we all mean finger prick tests OR the 'armful' of blood ones the NHS does from time to time. The first is measured in small numbers and a decimal point, eg 6.5 or 9.3, and the later in larger whole numbers eg 48 upwards. Mostly we'd know which was which test, from the result because finger prick testing meters don't usually read higher than 33 ! They just say HI above that, or LO when it's too low for it to read.

Thank you trophywench I really must remember to get a copy of my bloods when seeing the DN next time, think it will be interesting how much has changed since finding out.
since she put me onto finger pricking I have found that so helpful and have got a better idea of what makes it go up or down and have managed to mostly keep it within range, my DN was really happy at my last appointment but it was only since I started doing this, I was about to be put on insulin and this has now been pushed back and put on victoza instead and talk of maybe cutting one of my other med’s in 3 months if I carry on the way I am
