I was diagnosed with type 2 last Monday. Shouldn’t really have been surprised family history of it and to be honest bit annoyed with myself more than anything. After a week of ups and downs , the teenager trapped in this 50yr old body really did rebel eating all that she knows she shouldn’t. Now it’s time to knuckle down and get on with it. Not on any medication for now just diet and exercise which is a bit awkward at the minute as I have a prob with my hip and leg currently having physio for that so a few gentle walks have been about it. Have learnt so much already from this forum which is a good job seeing as you’re mostly left to get on with it. Appointment with diabetic nurse next week but not holding out much hope with that.

Hi Lyn and welcome. My rebellious 50 yr old teenager acts out every so often as well 😉

Welcome to the forum Lyn from a T2.

Hi Lyn welcome to the forum. This 65 yr old teenager plays up at times too, so your in Good company .
Feel free to ask any questions about diabetes, we’ll do our best to help.

LOL - so far nobody's beaten a 68 yo body who hasn't even decided what she might like to do when she leaves school, yet. However - seems to be much the same as it always was from birth - ie as little as she can get away with and not incur of the wrath of the mother, teacher, employer, husband ……. ruddy diabetes !

Hi Lyn68...I'm fairly new myself but have found this forum very helpful in answering any questions you may have...
Welcome 🙂

Hi Lyn, welcome to the club no one wants to join 😉 it’s not so bad once you get your head around it and don’t underestimate the value of little walks!!
Read as much as you can and ask anything you need to know, there is more collective experience here than any health care professionals I have met so far 🙄

Hi @Lyn68 welcome to the forum

Welcome Lyn - I too have recently joined the forums, there's a lot of good stuff to be found and everyone's very friendly and helpful. Mike

welcome to the Forum. You are certainly not alone. I have never known so many people diagnosed with pre or full blown diabetes. Another two of my friends have been diagnosed diabetic over the last couple of weeks. One of them I am not too surprised though as she has had pancreatitis a few times.

Welcome. We are all in this together. My type 1 diagnosis at the age of 60 was a shock. No family history. The question Why is one that I often ask.

Welcome to the Forum Lyn 68.

Ann - I have learned something else. I thought Type I was always genetic, Type II not always.

Hi Lyn from another 50 plus teenager, nearly new to site and recently diagnosed.

Lynn gentle exercise is perfect...any activity we can manage is a benefit...can you tell us a little more about yourself...do you know what your HbA1c result was...this is the test to diagnose whether you are diabetic...it will either be in mmols or percentages...if you can tell us a little more that would help members offer the right advice...make the appropriate suggestions...thankfully you are realistic about the support you may or may not get from your health care professionals...I would agree with you we are often left on our own to deal with it...fortunately T2 is something we can manage perfectly well on our own with the right support...you'll find plenty of that here...if you have any specific questions post them here...I daresay one of will be able to help...good luck.

My HbA1c was 69.... had my first appointment with DNS today which was actually better than I expected. She also checked with doctor as she thought I should have been on medication so I am now on metoformin starting with 1 at breakfast everyday and then building up until I eventually take 4 a day. I also now have high blood pressure so medication for that as well.
