Type 2
Hello - I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in May during lockdown. As I live alone I felt very lost and so have been lurking on this forum and reading all the advice. At diagnosis my HbAc1 was 114 and I was shocked and devastated like so many of us. I got the news by phone from the GP at 7 45 pm just as I came back from doing my weekly shop and so then had cupboards and a fridge full of unsuitable food. After a short sob, I found this website and started learning all I could.

This morning I had a text from GP saying my HbAc1 is now 44. I am obviously very happy about this and so thought I would post to say thanks to all who share on this site. All who give their time to help us newbies are fantastic and I wanted to say just how much I appreciate it.

I intend to continue to lurk and learn!

Welcome to the forum and can I suggest you do more than lurk and start to contribute?

Getting your HbA1c from 114 to 44 is a fantastic achievement and sharing your experience could well help others who are trying to work out what to do when they get the sort of news you got in May.

WOW! Just WOW!

Welcome @Hammergirl and thanks so much for posting your inspirational story. It is a pleasant reminder that there may be lots more people reading the forum and benefitting from it than just those who join and contribute regularly, so really great that you have posted this as it helps to motivate people to share their experience.

It is absolutely amazing that you have done so well in such a short space of time but particularly during an extremely trying period when many people have felt the need to comfort eat. Even more so that you didn't reach out to this community directly to support you through it. We all know there are good days and less than good days along the way to achieving great results.... we all have our moments of weakness, so the fact that you achieved what you have on your own is even more impressive.
I hope now that you have dipped your toe into the water and introduced yourself, you will hang around to provide support and encouragement to others.

Welcome to the forum Hammergirl from a fellow T2.
From 144 to 44 in 3 months. That's quite a drop.
How are you feeling?

Another “Wow!” from me @Hammergirl That’s a huge drop!

You obviously made big changes and stuck to them 😎

Ralph - today I feel great! I came back from my swim at 7am to the lovely text from my GP. It feels good to have the confirmation that what I am doing is working.
I hadn't actually realised before diagnosis that I wasn't well. It was only once my levels started to drop that I realised how rubbish I felt - I just thought it was a reaction to lockdown!

Well done! Fantastic results.

Welcome to the forum. (I also lurked for months before joining.)

What a fabulous result @Hammergirl after what must have been a lot of hard work. Congratulations! 🙂 and great to hear you feel so much better.

Welcome and glad you've joined us 🙂
