Hi everyone, so how do you cope with Christmas food?

Indulge
Nibble
Avoid

I'm a newbie so be gentle with me ;-)

if you really need to nibble then go for low carb choices
Cheese
Nuts
85%+ cocoa chocolate
if your a meat eater pigs in blankets, cold meats etc
Personally I don't
xx

Make informed choices as @Kaylz suggests. Know which treats to avoid and which ones are low carb and you can indulge without concern. Olives would be something I would add to her list above and pork scratchings and devilled eggs but it depends upon your tastes.
Mince pies are lush and hard to refuse but pretty high carb at about 30-40g carbs for a normal sized one however one of those mini ones will give you a mouthful of treat without blowing your BG too far out of the water as they are about 12-15g carbs per mini pie.... or half a normal sized one and eat half one day and the other half the next. Eat it slowly, chew well and savour that mouthful of heaven, but make sure you limit yourself to just the one and remember this is a special Christmas treat and it is important to be back to being good again after the festive season.
Drinks wise, a glass of red wine or dry white should be fine or spirits with diet mixers. Beer, lager and cider are higher in carbs so try changing your tipple if they are your normal poison.

Happy Christmas!

Hi :D This is my second Christmas as a type 2 and I’m feeling ok about it all, last year i was dreading it, i am a mince pie glutton and was obsessed with not being able to eat LOTs!! I decided to allow myself one on Christmas Day, on the run up it was all i could think about.....how good it would taste....mmmmmm
When the big day arrived I didn’t eat it after all and was absolutely fine 🙄 I had so many other things to think about that i forgot until the evening, then decided it just wasn’t worth it 😛 To be honest as long as I have alternative nibbles I dont feel I’m missing out at all. Plan ahead, be prepared and enjoy the day. Merry Christmas :D

Hi everyone, so how do you cope with Christmas food?

welcome to the forum! And merry Christmas to you too 🙂

Indulge
Nibble
Avoid

Yep! That’s pretty much it really. I use all of those.

Some ‘treats’ aren’t worth having. Some are worth having occasionally, but the frustration of BG chaos outweighs the small pleasure they gave. Some are worth having and I enjoy them.

The important thing, I think, is that YOU decide which you want to enjoy. And have them. Avoiding everything seems rather joyless (not to mention impossible). But having everything all the time has problems if it’s own.

There are no right or wrong answers, only choices.
