Hello there, my name is Grace and I have type 2 diabetes. I have been on Novomix 30 for a while but not getting very good results with it. I have had M.E. for 19 years which greatly complicates sleeping and eating to a normal regular schedule due to certain symptoms, add to this problems arising from also being a carer to two other family members (most prompting to adult autistic son and visiting terminally ill mother) and my husband (who does the meals) being on completely unpredictable shifts. In short my eating and sleeping tend to be very chaotic and I don't think it is possible for a mixed insulin to help in these circumstances. Am I going to get shouted down if I go to the diabetic nurse and ask to go on a basal plus bolus regime instead to enable me to carb count and adjust as I go along accordingly? Cheers, Grace

Welcome Graceelsie.

Basal bolus or MDI insulin regime would be much more suitable for an unpredictable / normal / anything other than very routine life. So, I would hope that your diabetes nurse would be encouraging. No harm in explainign that Novomix 30 doesn't suit you and that you'd like to try an alternative regime.

While you can and should carb count and adjust doses according to food intake, activity etc, unfortunately, DAFNE (Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating) courses are only available for people with type 1 diabetes (although I've never been offered one). Youn might find it helpful to look at an online course, though - see http://www.bdec-e-learning.com/ Generally people with type 2 diabetes need higher doses of insulin than those with type 1, due to insulin resistance.

Welcome to the forum Graceelsie 🙂

Grace hi and a warm welcome to the forum

Hi Grace. Welcome.🙂

I'm not surprised you're having problems with novomix.

I would explain to the diabetes nurse and refuse to leave until you either get what you need for your lifestyle or can be referred to a consultant/DSN for further advice.

There are some bullies out there who believe they know what suits you better than you do, but there comes a point what they offer isn't enough.

Stick to your guns and let them shout.🙂

Rob
