a quick question how does alcohol effect diabetes?i only drink once a week at most and its usually a few beers and vodka/diet coke with no food during....should i try and eat something during the session to offset any expected rise in BG?
Beer, particularly real ale, has a fair amount of carbohydrate, so eating is not always needed. Vodka and diet coke would cause dip in blood sugar, being carbohydrate free alcohol, but as part of a beer session, probably OK. However, always have food available during and after a drinking session. If on blood sugar lowering medication, best to test blood glucose before bed.
