I am type 2?1.5? who knows but at the end of the day I am diabetic (sounds like ive just joined the AA) am on insulin soon to change from mixed to basal bolus ,seemed like a good idea to try mixed but as my food patterns are not regular and dont always eat the same things its not really worked for me 🙂

Welcome to the forum, Vikki. You're right that basal bolus regime is far more flexible than mixed insulin, making it possible to cope with irregular food intake, plus other factors in life, like exercise etc. Having the right treatment is the key factor. However, do ensure that you get enough blood glucose test strips precribed so that you can keep yourself safe.

Have a great team of drs and nurses so always am listened to and given enough strips so count myself fortunate as i know others fight for sufficient ones

How come they don't know if you are T2 or 1.5 - how long have you been diagnosed etc ?

Hi vikki, welcome to the forum 🙂 The main thing is not the diagnosis, but that you are getting the treatment you need and a good support team behind you who are willing to listen and able to respond - sounds like you have that, which is great to hear! 🙂 Any questions, please ask away! 🙂

Coming from a family of diabetics i recognised the symptoms and took myself off to dr for confirmation ,all this over two decades ago, then when diet and excercise didnt make any difference and why would it as was 9 stone very active and did not overeat, went onto one tablet after another with only limited effect and am sure this route through type2 is usual for everyone eventually being refered to consultant where i asked am i type1 ,well you would have thought id said something very rude as she shouted "of course not or you would have been on the floor by now" then onto insulin so thats why i am not sure of type but apart from being unable to have a pump everything is much the same anyway so onwards and upwards or should that be downwards :D

I think the key indicator of Type has to be insulin resistance - if you are on relatively small doses of insulin then it is likely that you diabetes is due to insulin-insufficiency and a form of Type 1. I say 'form of' because I have a 'form of' Type 1 that is a bit odd - I stopped needing a basal insulin (was on lantus) 3.5 years ago, which was 4 years after diagnosis. I still need insulin with food, but quite small amounts (12-25 units a day) indicating no insulin resistance. For my Diabetes Anniversary this year I spent a 'Day without Diabetes' - I ate virtually no carbs and had no injections. My blood sugar levels were around 8-10 mmol/l most of the day. I have encountered one or two other people with a similar manifestation of diabetes - doctors need to understand that it's not as simple as some of them seem to believe! 😱

Welcome from a newish type 2. It's 11 months, so I suppose I shouldn't say newbie anymore.

Welcome to the forum Vikki 🙂
