Hi every one,
I was dianosed with type 2 about a month ago, I have made some major changes to my life, good job i gave up smoking about 3 months ago as well really lmao.
I am finding it hard with all the adjustments but i guess i will do it second nature as time goes on.
The hardest part for me so far is when i play golf,(I play as early as possible) i get wierd feeling in my body after about 6 holes, like i need to eat or something which i do and it goes away eventually, I eat porridge before i go to the course and a banana before I tee off and takes snakes with me, but I dont remember to snack all the way around 🙄
Any body got any tips for me please as it does distrupt my game for a few holes 😱

From my vast experience of two whole months, I reckon it may be the banana which is full of sugar, that and the exercise may be sending your blood sugars up. You could try a few nuts instead and see if that works better for you. What snacks are you taking with you?

I forgot to say, welcome to the forum.

🙂

Hi back at ya lol

I was told by a nurse to eat the banana to try to make sure i had enough sugar in me, contuary to belief golf can be very taxing on your energy sourses.
I usually take a couple of wheat rolls and sort of eat them as i am going around and not all at once if you know what i mean lol.

PS
Thank you for your help and advice as well 🙂

And forgive my spelling it was never my best point lol

hi tommy and welcome to the forum, maybe you could take with you something as you play your rounds just incase you get the munchies , like a few nuts or some plain digestives maybe 1 0r 2 in some cling film, fills a gap and maybe keeps you going till you hit the clubhouse

I do take a couple of wheat rolls with me, I used to drink lucazade before i was diagnosed and it never happend then lol

Hi Tommy and welcome to the forum

Just a thought from me, have you got a blood glucose monitor as it sounds like you *may* be going hypo/hyper? I know there is a bit of hoo-ha from various GPs and DSNs about giving them to type 2 but it might be a good idea. Ask your DSN if its a possibility to get one, and if not keep bugging her til you do get one. They are a very very handy tool just to know what foods affect you and how excersise affects your sugar levels

🙂

Thanks Salmon, i do have one i bought myself years ago, well the wife insisted i test myself lol.
I will test myself when i start feeling like i do and see what it says

excellent stuff! I guess ideally you want to be between 5 and 7 mmols, any lower than that make sure you eat something to get the levels back up. I'm not sure what Type 2's do if high...anyone???

That was going to be my next question. what do I do if it is way to high? any one please?

Hi Tommy, welcome to the forum!🙂 It's difficult to say what might be happening without knowing what your levels are when you start feeling off - could be high, or could be lower than you are used to. Ideally, you need to test before you start the activity, then test again if you start feeling bad. If your levels are above 14 mmol/l you shouldn't really start, as exercise can make your levels climb even higher. If you are that high, then you'll need to start experimenting with different breakfast foods to try and find something that does not push you so high. Below 14, you should be OK. Are you taking any medication for your diabetes, or are you diet-and-exercise controlled? Many people experience low blood sugar symptoms when they begin treatment after diagnosis, as their levels fall to more normal levels.

It is a lot of trial and error at first rying to establish how food and activity affect you, but it is worth it in the end, so keep a record of everything so you can begin to spot patterns etc.

Hi Northerner,

Yes i am on metformin, 3 daily,
I am playing in the morning so I will take a test before i play and then after a few holes.

Thank you for your advice 🙂
