Been a member for years but never took my diabetes as seriously as I should.

Last results 12/1/24 is 80. Blood sugars anywhere between 9.00 and 15/16 in the day. 2 slow release metformin a day.

Don’t really eat till 10/11am, tried intermittent fasting but doesn’t work. I have high cholesterol and blood pressure tablets too and recently been diagnosed with neuropathy in my elbows.

So starting to take things seriously and trying to find any help and support I can. At 35 I need to step it up a gear and control things

Welcome to the forum, sadly some people don't take their diagnosis seriously until they start suffering for complications which is a shame as it is a perfectly manageable condition if you take some measures to reduce your blood glucose levels.
I'm afraid the advice given by GPs is not the best as it does not recognise the power of a low carb diet in reducing blood glucose and hand out meds without sensible advice on diet thus people end up on more and more meds.
A dietary regime which you find enjoyable is one you will be able to sustain for life, it need to become a new way of eating.
Many find that a low carb approach actually has positive benefits for cholesterol and blood pressure especially if you also need to lose weight.
In principal not eating until several hours after you get up is not a problem though it can lead to a higher blood glucose level as the liver will release glucose to give you energy and for your organs to function so a small no or low carb something can halt that otherwise you start the day with high blood glucose.
Metformin alone is not likely to be sufficient without dietary changes which with your quite high Hba1C will need to be significant.
Have a look at this link and you will find you can still have tasty filling meals.

It is suggested that no more than 130g carbs not just sugar is a good starting point, it is not NO carbs.

Hello @Seales18

Glad you have de-lurked, and are deciding to give your diabetes a little more front-of-mind attention. 🙂

Looks like you joined the forum around 5 years ago, and your avatar doesn’t look like you fit the classic weight profile for T2. Do you have other close family members with T2? Or anyone in your family with an autoimmune condition perhaps?

Just wondering how your diabetes classification was determined? 30 is roughly the age where a straw-poll of forum members suggested that getting a tick put in the wrong diabetes box was most likely. Which might explain why your meds and / or efforts so far may not have been as successful as you’d hoped?

Hi thanks for the reply

I weighed around 15stone when I was diagnosed. I had 3 readings of 48.

Over the years got it down to around 42 but over the last year maybe 18 months it's getting worse. Maybe it's life being stressed and relationships up and down that's contributed. Very busy lifestyle but work daughter and archery roles I don't actually do much exercising if any at all either.

He seales I've done a big lifestyle and food alteration that I hope is sustainable. Nothing expensive. So building in exercise around my life. For example if you head to archery can you walk around the block before? I need to noth relax and exercise more. So last night it was a pub meal out with family. They drove and I walked and did my online meditation at same time. I think its a state of mind. But I do find it really really hard to change. So like today. No movement and I need to go to the supermarket. Every bone of me wants to get in the car. What I hope to do is get on my bike and buy less. I've a v bad back etc but I'm trying to put off the insulin (T2) which my mum and most of family are on. Good Luck.
