Hello, just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes finding it hard to work out what I can eat.hoping to find help

Welcome @Amanda65 There are a lot of helpful people here. Reduce sugar and carbs basically. One that surprised me was bread. Then you've got pasta and others. Diet is a big subject though. Because you've also got to keep in mind quantity and frequency. However, there are books and reading material on top of the help from others here. Have a good day.

Thankyou Richard, its just the breakfast im having problems with I don't like Greek yogurt, avocado I was looking for some cereal ideas.

You're welcome Amanda. One that springs to mind is porridge. But that's a bit bland to me. Take a look at the sugar content. Muesli might be a better choice.

Hi Amanda, I was diagnosed T2 earlier this year. I was not a fan of yoghurt, but now eat full fat Greek yoghurt with berries (fresh or frozen) and put a bit of cereal on top for texture. I find this surprisingly tasty, so I would advise you to experiment with new foods that you may not have previously enjoyed. Eggs, omelettes, mushrooms are good too. I think you will find plenty of suggestions in the food and drink section of the forum. Today I had sausage , bacon, mushroom, fried egg, tomatoes and one slice of wholemeal bread. Two hours after breakfast my BG was 5.3 which was lower than before eating (6.2), so if you have a monitor you can experiment and see which foods do not raise your BG level too much.

The trouble is cereals are high carb, you can find lower carb ones but still probably would need to have a reduced portion.
Some of the Granolas, may be OK. I buy Keto Hana which is expensive but only 9g carb per 100g, somebody mentioned another one which I can remember the name of which was also low carb, they tend not to have grains in so are seeds and nuts based.
Try different brands of full fat Greek yoghurt as I find there is quite a difference in flavour, the one I like best is the Aldi one.

Hi Leading lights, yes you are right the cereal is high carb, but I only add a small amount for texture and crunch along with some flax and chia seeds. I don’t find that this raises my BG level significantly. If I have fresh strawberries then I probably wouldn’t add the cereal. I have used this as I previously would have had either toast, cereal or porridge for breakfast. As I say I am new to this and will probably eliminate the cereal over time. I know some people go from their old way of eating to low carb, but I am changing my eating habits gradually. I have eliminated biscuits, crisps etc and working on changing to lower carb options. @Amanda65 was looking for cereal options, my suggestion was to try the Greek yoghurt with a little cereal as she may find like I did that it is quite enjoyable. I use the Lidl full fat one as that is my local supermarket, I haven’t tried any others yet but I am happy with that one. I agree probably nuts and seeds would be a better option than cereal.

It looks as if what you are doing suits you and you have found a happy compromise. I do exactly what you do full fat greek yoghurt, berries and a scattering of granola or all bran. I found that didn't increase my blood glucose when I tested.

Basically anything with flour in it, hence pasta, pastry, bread, thickened and packet sauces, baked goods like biscuits and cakes are automatically suspect. Leguminous veg like peas, beans, lentils are carby. Fruits all differ - berries generally have less carb simply because there is less flesh and more seeds. Sugar and hence all the "ose"s are mega high carb - fructose, dextrose, sucrose, maltose so watch out for them.
