Hi all I’m new to the group and have found the only way to get me motivated is to start a support group myself, the isn’t really any groups in Northumberland but but with the help of diabetes uk and the great support from my local GP trust in Bedlington I am setting up a diabetes and wellbeing group to start in July

Hi Zenbob, welcome to the forum.

It's great to hear that you're getting some on the ground support in your local area. Many people have found online support to be invaluable so I hope that you'll be well looked after by having both.

Feel free to share a bit more about you such as how long you've been diagnosed and how you're getting on with managing things.

We've got lots of info on the forum and main site so do have a poke around and let us know if we can help in any way.

Hi here do I start, I was diagnosed with type 2 some 10 yrs ago but on study of my condition I know I had symptoms for much longer. I’m my many professions Army, pilot, nurse, psychologist etc I have many opportunities to correct my diabetes but just have not been motivated to do so and found personally little help from the medical teams partially my fault and partially they don’t have time. Anyway I decided enough was enough and looked for a support group in Northumberland. As there were non local to me I decided to form a group of my own using my skills and with the support of Diabetes UK and my local GP well-being team are in course to open next month.

Would you like to say a bit more about where you are at with your Diabetes, what steps have you taken to get better management of your blood glucose, what is your HbA1C and what dietary measures and /or medication are you adopting.
There will be plenty of support here from folk who have been in the same situation as you.
People have to become their own expert as, as you say there is often little or poor support from the medical profession, however some people are lucky and have very good support.

Hi my personal HBA1C is 105 with an average (old money) 17.5 yes yes I know but I am in the process of tackling it and this week it has come down to 12.5 and the dietary charges/substitutes have helped enormously. I have plans to put in place a quick help subscription food menu so quick fix ideas will benefit others.

Just be careful of 'a quick fix' as sometimes if people reduce their blood glucose too quickly it can give them issues with their eyes and nerves which hopefully are temporary. But also what you do has to be sustainable, managing blood glucose is a long term lifestyle regime.
