Hi there, not a newby but not been on forum for ages, so hello all. Just been changed( before Xmas) from mixed insulin to basal and bolus with loads of support from diabetic specialist nurse and dietician.I have to do training for libre 2 which will be either face to face or virtual . Anyone got any thoughts? Blood glucose been coming down until today, but I’ve got a horrible cold and uti, and levels gone up all day.

Hi and welcome back.
Which basal and bolus insulins have they given you and how are you managing. Hopefully they are giving you more flexibility with your food and lifestyle. Good to hear that you have had plenty of support during the changeover.

Unfortunately illness and infection will usually cause your levels to rise and if you are on insulin, it is generally advised to follow the "sick day rules". Do you have a copy of those? They consist of a flow chart which directs you on what to do with your insulin doses, depending on the results of tests. Do you have a means of testing for Ketones? I know Type 2s are less likely to develop ketones but it is the basis of sick day rules and would be important to have that option. It is also important to keep hydrated so drink plenty, particularly with a UTI.

Hope you feel better soon and please shoult up if you need a copy of "sick day rules" or need any other help.

Hi and thanks I have a copy of sick day rules but never thought about them . Will look tonight and no I dont have to check for ketones. I’m drinking a fair bit and have antibiotics for uti,

Sorry it’s Humalog and abasoglar

What are your readings like at the moment. Have they got your Abasaglar dose about right yet and are you carb counting your meals and adjusting your doses of Humalog or still on fixed doses? Great to hear that you are going to get Libre.

I would be tempted to go for whichevrr training will get you up and running with libre soonest! To be honest, you can follow the instruction leaflet, bit its useful to understand how libre takes measurements etc so you understand why not same as fingerpricking also if there are any issues with set up, scanning (can be tricky to find the scanny bit on your phone)
