Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello All,

I have been Type 2 since 2014. Currently managed through diet and exercise.

Both parents being type 2 and a life style that has not been the best. Drinking too much, only eating foods I enjoy, and very little in the way of exercise. The writing was on the wall.

So a bit about me.
44 at my last birthday.
I work in London as a freelance/consultant Systems Accountant, have two children 22 and 18 and married to my childhood sweetheart.

One of my passions is our Bengal Cat.
Picked up as a rescue from Battersea Cats Home, he is a lovely example of a 6.5kg Bengal. Hates and attacks everything that moves in the garden.

Another passion is my pair of SAAB's
Yes I'm a SAAB NUT! and have a 9-5 2.2tid wagon (Family Car) and a mk1 9-3 2.0t Convertible (Weekend Toy)

Hobbies:-
Computers - Programing/Development/Gaming
Music - Heavy Rock/Metal/Indie
Films - Anything but Rom Coms and Chick Fliks, but obviously I do have to watch them to keep my better half happy

Hi Jeffrey, welcome to the forum 🙂 How have things been going for you - are you on top of things and getting good levels now? Do you test your levels at all, or do you just have the tests at your GP's? Please let us know if we can help in any way - no question is considered 'silly'! 🙂

Weclome from a fellow T2, diagnosed December 2014 (17 months in, not far off a year and a half). Done COBOL and Pascal.

Hello Northerner,
I have a great Doctor, on diagnosis he told me I could get better information from the web than he could provide.

He gave me a couple of websites to take a look at this one and the DCUK forum. I have opted for for a low carb paleo diet. This seems to be working very well for me, levels have dropped like a stone along with my weight 14st to 13st. The reduced weight and once a week swimming has strengthened my knees enough I'm considering a return to cycling, something I haven't done since an off road MTB accident nearly 15 years ago that resulted in my bad knees. But they feel so strong with less grinding, I'd love to get back on a bike even if it's just on gentle roads.

I hope to carry on with the diet and exercise until I reach my target weight of 12st, at 6ft this puts me right in the middle of health and my doctor say this would be the best thing I can do for putting the type 2 behind me.

I have a chaotic life style as a freelancing Systems Accountant. Working in London with businesses lunches and diabetes just don't mix, but you soon find things you can eat and drink.
I monitor everything I eat and drink and test before every meal. This helps me decide what I can eat.

All sounding very positive Jeffrey! 🙂 Hope you can get back on the bike, sometimes some gentle exercise can be good for the joints 🙂
