My husband has type 2 diabetes, he isn’t overweight, he is 70 and still works full time, and he loves his sweet stuff, but doesn’t really like sweetners, so I feel stuck, as what to cook for him for lunch and tea, every day !
looking for some ideas, thank you.

sweet stuff is a bit of a challenge but how about fresh rasberries or blueberries with some greek yoghurt and a sprinkle of nuts? All simple carbs in excess are bad for type 2s.

Cream is ok for type 2s so small berries portion with cream? I like a square of 85% dark chocolate with peatnutbutter or a smear of creme fraiche.

sweeteners: my dad claimed not to like them but un known to him my mum had fed him them in tea for 5 years.
Stevia or Xlylitol sugar subs are worth a go. They are sweeter than sugar so go easy.

food: try 3 egg omlettes, eggs any way with veg or salads or hot veg. Small steak with green veg and no potato but celeriac mash. Cauliflower mash or rice. Lasagne with cabbage as the pasta is a good compromise, or cauliflower cheese and bacon made with no flour. Lots of recipes on this site by the way

Have a look at the Food forum (under the Forums tab at the top) there are lots of low carb recipes and also the thread What did you eat Yesterday for ideas if what Type 2 folk have for meals, bare in mind some people will be just dietary managed and some will be on various meds so will have varying amounts of carbs per meal.
What would be typical meals for you both. If he doesn't need to lose weight then he needs to make up for cutting out or reducing the carbs by having protein and healthy fats. The sugary things really need to go.
I chose to go with a low carb regime and my other half was quite happy with that way of eating and lost some weight which ha wanted to do, he does have some extra stuff, mostly cereal when I have just yoghurt and berries or fruit juice when I have fizzy flavoured water and biscuits when I have nothing.

Welcome to the forum @Kaz131

As well as the Recipes and Food and Carb suggestions on the forum, you might also like to look through the ’enjoy food’ section on the main Diabetes UK website:

There’s no ‘one size fits all‘ diet that works for everyone, but many T2 members on the forum find that moderating their overall carb intake is a helpful strategy. If lower carb appeals there’s a downloadable meal plan that you could look at for ideas of some swaps and possibilities

Hope you find some useful suggestions that suit your husband. Let us know how you get on! 🙂
