Hello I’m so pleased to be here. I need some advice please. I think my blood sugars are fluctuating and I don’t understand why! I’ve recently started to feel dizzy and unwell. I’ve been taking my blood sugars which start in the morn between 5.9-6.6 then after meals between 6.9 - 7.9 Last night I woke up and felt shaky and sick so took a test this morn and it was 5.9.
I’m 61, overweight and trying to control my sugars on my own as I was told a few years ago I was glucose intolerant. I’m trying to lose weight and exercise more but to be honest it’s not going too well!!! I’m thinking of talking to my gp but really would prefer to manage without meds as long as I can obviously. Any advice gratefully accepted! Thankyou

Book an appointment with your GP and tell them everything you’re experiencing. It may not be related up blood glucose levels so it’s always advisable to seek the advice of your GP.

Let us know how you get on with the GP

Hello @Carrieanne and welcome to the forum.
As @ColinUK suggests, it would be good to check with your GP as a first step.
Your blood sugar readings look to be with in a good range, so it looks as if you may be having some success with blood sugars control, but best to get the other symptoms checked out before proceeding much further.

Hello Thankyou so much for your replies yesterday. I visited my gp who says he thinks my bloods are within a good range. I’m going for other blood tests this week. However as I’ve woken up again this horrid faint hungry feeling and heart pounding, and the only thing that seems to settle it is a cup of tea and one rich tea! I guess I’m very lucky to have a reading of 6.3 this morn after a pancake yesterday. I know there are folk a lot worse off than me. I just want to be sensible and prevent anything from getting worse! Thankyou for your help it has been very much appreciated

Hello @Carrieanne
Thanks for letting us know that you managed to get a GP appointment, and that some blood tests are in progress
As the GP says your blood sugars seem to be well within the good range.
A cup of tea in the morning can be quite calming, and if one rich tea helps then that's good.

Hello Carrie,
your bloods are very good so no worries there 🙂

Have you actually tested your blood sugars when you wake in the night feeling as you do? If not perhaps do so, if on the low side then consider having a couple of cream crackers with some cheese before bed.
