Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi,

I have been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes since April 2011. I have been reading the message board now for quite a while and found it very useful...so i thought i might as well join and share my many concerns as i am fairly new to being a diabetic. For now am just posting to say hi 🙂 and hope all is well or getting there🙂

Hi Day, welcome to the forum 🙂 How have things been for you, and what insulin regime are you on? Please do feel free to ask any questions you may have! 🙂

Thanks..When i was first diagnosed i had a hba1c of 13 and was put on twice daily mixed insulin...I only managed to get down to 9.2 on this so my doctor suggested i switch to 4 daily injection ( which was soooo hard for me since i hate needles!) but i was determined to get my level down. So i was put on Lantus & Aprida since late july and i had my latest Hba1c last Monday and am quite pleased its now down to 7.2! which is very exciting for me since i want to start a family soon. so am hanging in there and hoping for even better results!

Good day to you Day and welcome to the forum. 🙂

That's terrific, glad you got onto the more flexible regime, hope you are coping much better with the extra injections now 🙂

Hello Day. Welcome 🙂

Do you know why your doctor put you on Apidra?

Most people go onto humalog or novorapid on MDI. Apidra has a faster action time and so may not be suited to meals that digest a bit more slowly.

Your HbA1c is very good, but you may find further improvement with different insulin. It's maybe something to discuss.🙂
