A MIDWIFE at the Alexandra Hospital has been recognised with a national NHS Hero award.
Helena White was honoured with an NHS Hero certificate for going above and beyond in her work with the African Maternity Health Link.
She has set up a link with a hospital in Sierra Leone.
As well as fundraising and campaigning for extra equipment for the Lumley Government Hospital, Ms White has visited the site in Freetown and used her expertise to support and teach midwives in a developing country.
