For the last couple of weeks now, i have had heel pain in my left foot. I do a lot of walking nowadays as i have joined The Ramblers so can go on long 5 - 8 mile walks. Just wondering if anyone else has had this and whether walking contributed to it? I won't (and don't) want to give up walking as it keeps me fit and active and helps me control my diabetes but don't know if this is a temporary 'pain'

I'd experiment with different insoles etc. Worth consulting someone who knows about walking / running, orthotics etc. Take along a worn pair of boots / shoes, as wear patterns can reveal gait, pronation etc. Also, depending on type of terrain - heel pain more likely on hard surfaces, such as tarmac or hard dry tracks; also may be more on downhill than uphill / flat - might be worth considering walking poles.

Ask around your Ramblers' group - there may be a physio / podiatrist / doctor / nurse etc with relevant experience.

Experiment with shoes and get it checked out medically to rule everything out. Hope the pain is eased soon

Years ago I had a 'heel spur' causing pain when walking (bony overgrowth of heel bone). It went away by itself after a few months. Look it up and see if the symptoms match yours.

Plantar Fasciitis is its official name. I have that and it's so painful. It gets better in the milder weather for me but in the winter it's murder, that first time in the morning when you get out of bed and put weight on it is like stepping on Lego!!!!😱

I too have Plantar Fasciitis, and OMG the pain is unbearable at times. I have just had two steriod injections to try and ease the pain...yes the injections hurt like nothing i have felt before, but, two weeks since my last, I think I can say I am seeing a difference.

Don't wear flat shoes, you need something that raises you foot a little, I am now only wearing trainers, and the pain is finally easing.

If it is Plantar Fasciitis then you can buy slightly raised insolls for your shoes (Scholl) - I was diagnosed with this condition as I took up walking and always wore flat shoes. Good luck with the ramblers x
