The number of people surviving a heart attack has doubled in 40 years as research and health care continue to improve, new figures show.
Now two in three victims recover, with average survival rates of 70 per cent for women and 68 per cent for men.
That is a reversal of fortunes compared with figures from 1974 to 1978, when two thirds of those aged 65 to 69 died from their heart attack.
