AN accidental encounter with a box jellyfish and hypothermia concerns wrecked an Irish distance swimmer's bid to make history with a solo crossing from Ireland to Wales.
Steve Redmond (47) admitted he was "bitterly disappointed" that he couldn't finish his distance swimming career by successfully making the 80km crossing from Wexford to St David's in Wales.
"It is a disappointment but I always knew it was going to be a tough challenge," he said.
