Diabetes and obesity levels rise in Somerset
PEOPLE in Somerset are being warned to watch their weight following a worrying rise in diabetes and obesity levels. The number of patients with diabetes in the county last year was 23,099, a rise of 1,211 or 5.5%, while obesity cases increased by 4,775 or 11% to 47,591. NEARLY 3,000 people in Dumfries and Galloway could have diabetes without knowing it. And it is putting them at risk of blindness, kidney failure, amputation or stroke and heart disease. Jane Clare-Judson, Scotland National Director, Diabetes UK, quoted.

Some councils in England fear budget pressures will hit care services which help elderly and vulnerable adults live at home, a BBC survey has found. Out of 87 English councils surveyed, 46 said they were concerned about funding for services.
