Abortion charities could be misleading public
Just one in 10 women who book consultations with Maries Stopes and the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) decide against having an abortion, according to figures from a sample of clinics. This is half the proportion regularly cited by the charities, who have claimed that one in five women who have consultations decide to keep their baby.

Women more than twice as likely to be depressed

Women are more than two-and-a-half times more likely than men to suffer from depression, with most cases occurring during the "reproductive years" between the ages of 16 and 42. The burden of trying to look after children, take responsibility for the family and hold down a job has seen rates of depression in women double since the 1970s, experts said.

Walnuts 'cuts risk of breast cancer'

A handful of walnuts a day could help reduce the risk of breast cancer. A study involving mice revealed rates of cancer halved, and tumours were smaller, when they were given the nuts in their diet.

Coalition to clash again over return of NHS Bill

The longest NHS Bill in history returns to the Commons tomorrow amid rising anger over its provisions to increase competiton and the role of the private sector. More than 1,000 amendments have been made by the Government since a summer "listening exercise", but it still faces the prospect of a Liberal Democrat revolt.

Parents of fat children told they may be put up for adoption

A mum and dad have spoken of their fear that *their children may be put up for adoption ? because they let them get fat. Social services accuse the parents of failing to bring the four obese youngsters? weights under control and have told the pair they may never see them again.
