More than a million of us do not know that we have diabetes
More than a million Britons are unaware that they have diabetes, an alarming study has found. Cases of the disease are soaring along with the rising tide of obesity - and experts warn the financial implications of diabetes-related illness could be ruinous for the Health Service. The new data indicates that 5.5million people could be living with the condition by 2030, leaving the NHS to pick up the bill. Douglas Smallwood, Diabetes UK Chief Executive quoted.

Simple test could detect Down's
A blood test during pregnancy could one day replace more invasive tests for Down's syndrome, say researchers. High-risk women are currently offered an amniocentesis test, which carries a risk of miscarriage.

Huntington's 'far more prevalent'
Anyone who carries the gene will develop the condition A devastating brain condition is at least twice as common as was previously thought, medical experts say. Huntington's Disease (HD), which is genetically inherited, currently affects at least 6,700 people in England and Wales.
