Baby boys can now expect to live to 78 as life expectancy gender gap narrows
Life expectancy for men increased by almost three years in the last decade to close the gender gap with women, Government figures showed today. The improvement means boys born in England between 2007 and 2009 can expect to reach the age of 78, while girls are likely to live just past their 82nd birthday - a difference of four years.

As medical science progresses life expectancy goes up, it does make you wonder what the average will be in say 50 years time.

We'll have to get together and discuss it - I'll be 102! 🙂

Oh dear. 50 years time is a depressing thought!

and I'll be 97!😱 No offence but I don't think will make that meeting unless someone wheels us in!:(

I'll be happy to be wheeled in if I make it to 102! :D 50 years is a long time. I know this because it represents my entire lifspan since I became properly aware of the world as a 2 year old. I pre-date the Beatles, was born a year after Sputnik was the first ever satellite, two days after Blue Peter started and before they opened the M1! Look at how the world has changed! 😱

Wow that's old Northerner!😉 I'll tell you one of the best birthday gifts you can buy someone. Years ago (maybe my dad's 65th) I bought him a copy of the Times newspaper from the day he was born, obviously this included all the events taking place in the UK and around the world and he was chuffed to pieces with it. Just forget the website where I ordered it from, but I am sure it was only ?8 including postage and packing.

My Mum got me one of those for my 21st! (31 years ago, but it's still the same paper!)
