Unhealthy living linked to diabetes rise in Wales
A STAGGERING 7,000 more people were diagnosed with diabetes last year in Wales, it has emerged. The disease now affects one in 20 people and has been linked to the growing rate of obesity as the majority of new cases are type 2 diabetes, which is associated with unhealthy lifestyles. Junk food diet blamed as diabetes rates soar

ONE person is diagnosed with diabetes every 40 minutes in Scotland, according to new figures that show the spread of the condition is faster than experts had previously predicted. Statistics obtained by The Scotsman reveal that in the past 12 months another 14,000 Scots were added to those registered with GPs as diabetic. Diabetes UK mentioned.

Diabetes and obesity rates soar to 'shocking' levels
The number of people with diabetes has soared by 150,000 in the past year and one in 20 adults in the UK now has the condition, according to the latest figures from GP practices. The data released by the charity Diabetes UK also shows that almost one in 10 adults, or 5.5 million people, are obese. The charity described these figures as "shocking" and it is calling on the government to put into practice its rhetoric on tackling health problems through prevention.

Stark warning as number of diabetics soars

Almost a quarter of a million people in the West Country now have diabetes – with the epidemic growing by more than five per cent in the past year, new figures have revealed. Figures collected from GP practices in the region show there are 225,000 people with the condition while a massive 438,000 are registered as obese.

Obese teenagers 'show signs of heart disease'

The blood vessels of obese teenagers look more like those found in middle-aged people, say Canadian researchers. A study of 63 children, whose average age was 13, found signs of "stiffening" in the aorta - the largest artery in the body.

Anger as number of patients waiting more than six weeks for crucial cancer tests doubles
The number of patients waiting more than six weeks for cancer tests has almost doubled since the Government axed NHS targets. In August, 5,795 people waited more than six weeks for MRI scans, ultrasounds and other tests to diagnose whether they have cancer and other life-threatening diseases, new figures have revealed.
