Plate aids diabetes weight loss

Using a simple portion control dinner plate can help people with type 2 diabetes lose weight and decrease reliance on medication, research shows. Canadian researchers put people with type 2 diabetes on a calorie-controlled diet for six months. Tracy Kelly, Care Manager, quoted.

New insulin could cut need for daily injections
A new insulin in development may remove the need for daily injections and reduce glucose fluctuations, research suggests. Data from a phase-2 trial showed treatment with new insulin degludec led to a more stable glucose-lowering effect in patients with type-1 diabetes than standard treatment. Drug warning to diabetes patients
Health charity Diabetes UK is urging all people with Type 2 diabetes in Devon taking all forms of the drug Avandia to consult their GP as a matter of urgency following a recommendation by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) to suspend the treatment with immediate effect. Previous research suggested that people with diabetes who take Avandia have an increased risk of heart failure and heart attack.

Alarming number of Kingston residents going untested for diabetes

Workers 'avoid sweaty exercise'
Many workers dislike exercising during the day because they do not want to get hot and sweaty in front of colleagues, a survey suggests. The British Heart Foundation survey of over 2,000 adults found 55% spent their working day sitting or standing still.

Astrazeneca upbeat on heart drug green light

ASTRAZENECA yesterday got the green light from regulators for the launch of a new heart medicine, as rival GlaxoSmithKline faced up to a clampdown on sales of its diabetes treatment. The European Medicines Agency said it had recommended approval of AstraZeneca?s blood thinning treatment Brilinta, used to treat dangerous clots.
