Charity biker ride from Llanelli in Ray Gravell's name
Around 150 bikers are taking part in a charity ride across Wales in memory of the late rugby legend Ray "Grav" Gravell. Grav's Great Bike Run, from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, is in aid of Diabetes UK Cymru and the National Council for the Blind of Ireland. Diabetes UK mentioned.

The ex-aide held over '?300,000 fraud' that shut Charles charity
A man has been arrested over an alleged ?300,000 fraud and money-laundering operation which led to the closure of a charity founded by Prince Charles. Accountant George Gray and his wife Gillian were arrested by Scotland Yard officers in an early-morning raid on their home in North London. Diabetes UK mentioned.

Chief to give talk on rare treatment
DIABETES UK president Richard Lane will give a talk to Nailsea, Backwell and District Diabetes support group this month. Mr Lane will be speaking to the group at its meeting on May 12 at 7.30pm at the Grove Sports Centre and Social Club, St Mary's Grove, Nailsea.

NHS weighs up use of cheaper drug to stop older people going blind
The Department of Health is preparing the ground for a possible roll-out of a cheap, but unlicensed drug which can help prevent older people going blind, as NHS bills for an approved but much more costly drug soar. Avastin does have a licence, but as a treatment for bowel cancer. However, in the United States and across the rest of the world it has increasingly been used - split into tiny doses and injected into the eye - to stop people going blind from wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the commonest cause of blindness.
