Smoking in cars should be outlawed to protect children, says BMA

Smoking should be banned in cars to protect drivers and passengers ? especially children ? from breathing in toxins far worse than those found in smoky bars, the nation's doctors have demanded. The British Medical Association (BMA) is urging ministers across the UK to extend the ban on smoking in public places introduced in 2007 to all vehicles in a further effort to protect people's health.

Doctors in London say they have cured a baby boy of a life-threatening disease which was destroying his liver. They implanted cells which acted like a temporary liver, allowing the damaged organ to recover.

Care home quango faces claims it put patients at risk after failing to spot serious abuse

Ministers have launched an inquiry into the watchdog which regulates hospitals and care homes over concerns that its failings have put patients at risk. Officials from the Department of Health took action because of fears that the Care Quality Commission was failing in its responsibility to carry out the inspections that can root out poor care.
