More groups reject health deal as pledges are unveiled
The launch of the government's "responsibility deal" to encourage healthier lifestyles in England has been overshadowed by the refusal of more health groups to sign up. More than 170 companies have put their names to a series of pledges covering physical activity, alcohol, health at work and food. Diabetes UK Chief Executive, Barbara Young, quoted.

Two more health organisations say they can't back a Government brokered 'Responsibility Deal' as pledges made by companies are published. More than 170 companies - including seven major supermarkets - have said they will back the scheme, which covers the areas of alcohol, behaviour change, food, health at work and physical activity. Learning to live with diabetes

Third of patients admitted 'at risk of malnutrition'
More than one in three people admitted to hospital across the UK are at risk of malnutrition, according to a survey of nearly 10,000 patients. Nutrition charity BAPEN, which ran the survey, said it was concerned about a rise in malnutrition among people admitted from their own homes.

NHS reforms will be a nice little earner for the private sector

GPs have always had an ambiguous position in the NHS. On the one hand, they are self-employed entrepreneurs, employing their own staff, owning their own premises and providing services for a fee, just like a solicitor or estate agent. Indeed, many GPs have diversified into owning private clinics, nursing homes and other businesses.
