Cardiff today: Record bloodathon, Feed Cardiff, and what to do in the rain
Today, Cardiff will host the world record attempt for the most blood pressure tests in one day. From 9am until 5pm outside entrances to M&S and Debenhams in St David's today residents are being urged to roll up their sleeves to take part. Rhodri Morgan AM and former First Minister is launching the attempt, which is also being backed by Welsh Weather Presenter Si?n Lloyd. The aim is to take more than 2,075 different blood pressures within just eight hours. Diabetes UK Cardiff 10K pictures included.

Surrey golfers tee off for charity

Golf lovers across Surrey are being encouraged to tee off and try their luck at scoring a hole in one in support of people with diabetes next month when leading health charity Diabetes UK holds a charity golf day in Reigate. Penny January, South East Fundraising Manager, quoted.

'One-off' prostate cancer tests backed for 60-year-olds
A single blood test for all 60-year-old men could pick out the vast majority of those likely to die from prostate cancer, say scientists. Some doctors oppose regular screening, saying it leads to too many men having unnecessary treatment.

Severe nightmares could be a warning sign of Parkinson's

People who scream and thrash around in their sleep may be more likely to develop the condition, scientists claim. Researchers found that people who suffer from ?REM sleep disturbance?, which includes nightmares, kicking and screaming, were at a higher risk of developing Parkinson?s and other forms of demential within the next five years.

Over half of restaurant cleaning cloths 'unsatisfactory'
The Health Protection Agency has studied the cleaning cloths used to wipe tables and kitchen surfaces at 120 different restaurants, fast-food outlets and caf?s in the North East. In total it sampled 133 cloths and found that 56 per cent contained what it described as "unacceptable" levels of bacteria. The most common bacteria was Enterobacteriaceae, found on found on 86 cloths, E. coli, found on 21 cloths, Staphylococcus aureus, found on six cloths and Listeria discovered on five cloths.

Homeopaths are offering 'MMR alternative' that puts patients at risk, warn doctors
Homeopaths are offering alternatives to crucial vaccinations such as MMR, which could leave patients vulnerable to potentially fatal diseases, doctors have warned. Three alternative practitioners have admitted they gave patients a homeopathic medicine designed to replace the triple Mumps, Measles and Rubella vaccine.
