A HEALTH board has been ordered to apologise to the family of a man who died after being admitted to hospital suffering from an infected toe.
The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman upheld a complaint against NHS Lanakshire that treatment for his gangrenous toe were "inadequate".
The report found staff "unreasonably failed" to recognise, monitor and address the patient's pain, agitation and confusion.
Staff were also rapped for an "unreasonable delay" in transferring the patient, known only as Mr A, to Monklands General Hospital, when his condition had deteriorated.
