Hbic was 55 last year come down from 106.
Nurse persuaded me to go onto Atorvastatin 20mg and now cholesterol is fine, but Hbic gone up to 59.
On metformin and forxiga which I am OK with hope it's just a blip but Nurse appointment next week.
Not sure what to ask or discuss with her

Statins can do that.

Do you have a diet and exercise plan and targets to get your weight and HbA1c down to (a) 42-47, the prediabetic range and then (b) 38 or less, the normal range?

Points to discuss with the DN?

Well done so far and keep up the good work.

Hi @Leeanne coming down to 55 from 106 is a fantastic achievement in my view. Going back up to 59 does not seem a huge issue to me. I had two blood tests a couple of weeks apart when diagnosed and the first was 92 the second 86. I think that there is a flexibility for some variation in results from time to time. Simple things like being ill, having a cold or maybe eating something that doesn't necessarily spike you BG can all have an impact.

I think @JITR's advice is pretty good as to how to focus your conversation with the nurse.

Amazing work on the reduction from 106 to 55 @Leeanne

There is some trial evidence that statins can result in a small rise in HbA1c in some people, and if someone is at risk of developing diabetes, they may some may get a diagnosis sooner.

But I think the official line for people who already have diabetes, the reduction in risk of potential cardiac events is more significant.

For what it’s worth, I didn’t notice any impact on my BGs when I started on statins.

Hope you next HbA1c settles back down 🙂

Same thing with me ....GP took me off the one I was on....
ros???statin(sp) and put me on the Atorvastatin, apart from making me feel sick to start with, it did increase bloods slightly but settled down by my next test at 60 days later. I think it's a statin thing tbh.
My GP did strongly advise to only take it at night....something about all round effectiveness.

No problems for me on Atorvastain - no significant changes to BG at all and as @everydayupsanddowns has said I think the reduction of risk of cardio problems is worth it IMO

For many, statins do increase BS a bit.
