Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
Hi just feeling concerned, waiting to see endocrine soon. I have no diagnosis. Been having low blood sugars ongoing, sweating, running to the toilet, tingling in hands, feet and lips. Brain fog and oral thrush that won't clear up. Diabetes is in the family I'm just tired feeling exhausted and shaking. Anyone experience anything similar.

Have you actually got an appointment to see the endocrinologist and if so, how soon is it? What else have they tested you for - eg thyroid problems? 36 is a pretty normal HbA1c result for people without diabetes - not for people with it. But the brain fog and thrush are symptoms of too high blood glucose not too low - so how do you know your BG is too low when this happens? Have you got a glucometer and testing yourself with that? Sorry for all the questions - but it all seems very odd!

Hi there yes have an appointment next week. Have had thyroid etc checked all ok apart from they said my cholesterol was to high for my age. Yes Dr gave me a Bg monitor so I can check. It's a bit of a mystery. I feel horrible.

It is not surprising you feel unwell with those symptoms, along with the uncertainty.
When you say you are getting low blood sugars, what levels are they.
The HbA1c gives an average of your Glucose levels over the previous months, weighted towards the Mose recent levels. So there may be a mix of both high and glucose levels in there.

As you have an appointment next week you might find it useful to keep a record of your glucose levels tested at regular points during the day, such as before meals and again about 2 hours afterwards. also include those times when you get the symptoms you describe. This will help your endo and you to get a clearer picture of what is happening.

keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

An HbA1C wouldn’t have a decimal point so would just be 36, 27, 42 or whatever, I believe. It’s good you’ve got a glucose meter - what results are you getting when you test on that? Do you test when you feel these ‘low’ symptoms?

It’s good you’re seeing a specialist as there could be a number of causes of your symptoms. Whatever the cause is, I hope it’s easily sorted and you’re feeling better soon.

Yes test regular @Inka
this has been ongoing from 2019 and still no answers of the cause. Its horrible.

Good - so when you feel the ‘low’ symptoms and test, what is your blood sugar @Crodan ?

If you’re clearly getting low blood sugar but don’t have diabetes or reactive hypoglycaemia, have rarer things like Cushings been ruled out? That’s just one thing that has many of the symptoms you’ve mentioned. There are others too. I think you need to systematically and objectively rule things out with the help of your doctors.

Sounds awful for you @Crodan - hope they can manage to get to the bottom of what’s going on soon. How low are the hypoglycaemia levels you have been experiencing?

Good luck with your appointment next week 🙂
