My HbA1C has now gone down to 43 which is 60% - does this mean that I am no longer diabetic? I have been diabetic over 7years and have never taken any medication for my diabetes.

Lovely to hear from you again @thelis! And with such great news! 🙂 Anything below 48 is considered 'non-diabetic', so you have things under good control. Don't change what you have been doing, it's obviously working! 🙂

Well done, Thelis. 🙂 That’s a great result!:D😛:D

Well done! You’re now at pre-diabetic levels. Needs to be under 42 for non diabetic range but essentially it means well controlled which is great! 😛

The World Health Organisation (WHO) suggests the following diagnostic guidelines for diabetes:

  • HbA1c below 42 mmol/mol (6.0%): Non-diabetic
  • HbA1c between 42 and 47 mmol/mol (6.0–6.4%): Impaired glucose regulation (IGR) or Prediabetes
  • HbA1c of 48 mmol/mol (6.5%) or over: Type 2 diabetes

Last year, at a diabetes support group, we had a diabetes consultant. One of the questions someone asked was "Can you beat diabetes" (meaning can you become not diabetic/cured). What the doctor said is they won't say you're not diabetic or cured. They'll say your 'in remission' if your HbA1c is within normal range (30?-42) for a period of time while not on meds.
Basically, you're still diabetic, well controlled and with BG in the non-diabetic range.
However, 43 is non-diabetic and a very good figure

43 is a good number, it shows you're taking care of yourself. Congratulations!
S.
