I had my bloods done in September as was due to see the diabetic consultant in October. My appointment was cancelled and I now have a new one for New Year's Eve. The phlebotomist said that my bloods have to be done within 6 weeks of seeing the consultant so I have booked another blood test appointment for Friday. My question is will they do another HbA1c so soon (and all the other tests)? If they do I know my HbA1c will be much higher than last time, control has completely gone haywire and I cannot get it back.

Hi Newbs I'd be really surprised if they didn't test your hba1C for your re-arranged appointment because the September test would be out-of-date. I'm sure that you're already doing it but when they were checking what was wrong with me I kept a careful detailed record of several blood tests per day, all insulin doses and all carbS. As well as pre meal blood tests this included blood tests two and three hours after each meal as well as 3am blood tests. I also made a note of all of my symptoms some of which had seemed insignificant at the time but were actually very relevant eg heartburn if I didn't take Lansoprazole and the symptoms that I had if I didn't take domperidone eg nausea/sickness, lack of appetite and a bloated stomach. This provided a complete picture for my diabetes consultant which led to the gastroparesis diagnosis.

I've been keeping a detailed record of the blood tests, including some 2/3am tests and also symptoms but not carbs, hadn't thought of doing that tbh. I've got a couple of weeks to write some carbs up though so will do that. Thanks for all your advice Amanda, it is much appreciated.

If you have a fancy phone it can make logging all that info much easier (though a notebook works well too!). There are several free apps that allow you to email results to yourself for printing/straight to your Dr.

Unfortunately I don't have a fancy phone, so a notebook will have to do. Maybe next year ... 🙂
