Doctors receptionist gave me my blood test results yesterday the figure being 50 and said normal, not sure what her qualifacations are for dishing out this info ,what i need to know is how to convert this to the old style numbers and is this reading good or not ??

hi emmerdale....... if you look at the top of the forum page you will see HbA1c..... just click and it will take you to a page where you will see the conversion

I'm no expert but I wouldn't say that 50 was normal by any means.

what is your followup after the test?

More recent guidelines seem to be below 48 (6.5%).

Presumably the receptionist is still thinking of the old 7.5% guideline (59), though to be fair they are probably only going off the information on their screen.

FWIW 'normal' (if by that one means non-diabetic) would be below 37 (5.5%)

The precise conversion would be:
(New number/10.929)+2.15 = Old number in %

ooh.... when you said the receptionist said 'normal' I assumed that she meant non-diabetic 'normal' LOL. sorry if I confused everyone 😱

You are supposed to be at risk of cardiovascular problems if it's above 7%, there's also a lower limit, I believe. So my GP is happy with anything just below 7.
