I'm totally flumoxed!
Diagnosed a year ago with type 1. Had my first check up today with GP, due to see specialist on Friday. Despite being careful, GP said my blood tests show 80ish for HBA1c, Noticed everyone else is posting in percentages. No idea what this means, other than its not great.
I'm feeling pretty useless in my control and have high cholestrol despite being 10 stone.

Hiya

And what does your own day to day testing tell you?

And have you been on a carb-counting course yet?

And what insulin regime are you on?

If diagnosed a year ago, they should have given your first Hba1c in the percentage form with perhaps the mmol/mol version too. Well that assumes they told you anything. Hey ho! Nice consistency in the NHS again (assuming it was the NHS).

Welcome to the forum though, I hope you become less flummoxed!

Andy 😉

p.s. My experience of the NHS was uniformly positive. The guys at St Mary's Hospital in London told me everything I needed to know.

Welcome to the forums tompey 🙂

When I collected my HbA1c it was given to me in percentage. When I prodded a little, the receptionist was not aware that it might start coming in the mmol/mol measurement!

Welcome to the forum tompey 🙂 I've always been given the HbA1c in percentages, although I have my review next week so let's see what they decide this time! To be honest, I reckon the percentages mean more to the consultants and nurses too because that's what they're used to and it can take many years to get used to things (just look at metric measurements in the UK! 😱)

It sounds like you need some help with your blood sugar control. If you can give us a bit more detail about the insulin regime you are on and the kinds of readings you get through a typical day, and what you eat, we may be able to give you some pointers and build up a list of questions for when you have your review 🙂
