Just phoned and got hba1c results from surgery
Down from 48 in January til 40 today .
I know it's not a lot but I'm quite happy considering I have gained a few pounds due to craving food as a result of giving up smoking at start of year .
When I think back 6 months when I was diagnosed (a1c - 88) and thought I was going to loose my mind then thankfully I found you great group of people who have helped me well on my way to living a healthier and happier lifestyle.
Thank you all and good luck on your own individual journeys .

James,that is great.
My HBA1C the other day was 80.
I would be interested to know what foods you ate to get it down from 88 to 40
I am quite similar to you in that I am on 1000mg metformin twice daily,am 6"1 and weigh 16 stones.
You could me my role model...lol

Hi Jon .
I'm not 1 that counts carbs ,protein etc. All I can tell you is that I stopped all fizzy drinks ,stopped eating all cakes ,buns and sweets +chocolate . I also stopped fast food takeaway (which was 5 nights a week) , all deserts taking cereal in the mornings, white bread and that's all I gave up eating .
I now eat fish on almost a daily basis. If not I
eat a lot of red meat or chicken and plenty of green veg , especially broccoli (which is my fav)
I also believe making time for yourself to walk at least 30 mins daily is a big factor to my numbers coming down.
Sorry this is all I can give you Jon, im still a novice to D and due to personal circumstances I get little time to study diabetes as deeply as I would if possible

You've over-hauled your life James and it's clearly working. That's an excellent result not even in pre-diabetic range (my last Hba1c was 40 too) 🙂 Good to hear!

Cheers @Amigo .
When you say out of pre -diabetic range I guess that can only be good ? ,does this just mean iv helped to avoid complications that diabetes can cause in the long run ? .
I heard a doctor talking on.my local radio station last weekend and she said it's possible to reverse type 2 .
Saying that I have a friend who is currently struggling with diagnosis and numbers . He is a well respected amateur 400 metre runner who believed he was in top shape .
I have been at him to join the site but he is not ready to take advice as he is in denial due to his healthy way of living .
Well done yourself for been in the 40 club Amigo

Thanks James and yes, a diabetic diagnosis starts at 48 with pre-diabeties from 41/42 onwards so 40 is indeed outside of diabetic range. If you'd walked into the doctor's today and registered a Hba1c of 40, they'd have simply said all was normal.
However, like you, I know this doesn't mean the hard word can stop because we are predisposed to high levels and it's only keeping them down that reduces the possible diabetic complications.

Thanks for clarification on that Amigo.
Maybe this all is life's way of telling me to try living a little more healthy than before .
I am enjoying my new lifestyle and have bags more energy than I had 6 months back .
I honestly never would of believed last year that I would be a non smoker and fast food free inside 12 months lol.
So I guess my diagnoses might have did me more good than harm in the long run .
